Work with an experienced wordsmith you can depend on

Hello, I’m Christine.

I’m a professional Spanish-to-English translator and proofreader based near Zaragoza, Spain.

I collaborate with businesses that need to communicate efficiently and accurately in English, and want the peace of mind of working with a specialist.

Just as you are a specialist in your field, I am a specialist in mine. I have a lot of experience translating and proofreading texts related to:

  • Companies and corporations
  • Education
  • Transportation and logistics
  • Travel and tourism

Translation isn’t just about having in-depth knowledge of two languages. (Which, of course, I do, having been born and raised in the UK, worked for many years teaching Business English, and lived in Spain for over 30 years!)

The best translators go far beyond that, with detailed knowledge of their specialist subject areas and exceptional research skills.

With 15 years working for a large-scale transport and logistics company, I know all the relevant terminology back to front, and have the specific knowledge required to produce English translations that tick all the essential boxes.

On top of that, because I have a curious mind, nurtured by years of organizing trivia contests and collecting general knowledge of all kinds, I find every job I do fascinating. I pay close attention to detail, document patiently and take every translation as an opportunity to learn something new.

Having developed and refined my translation skills in my past roles, I became a full-time translator in 2019.

These days, in my spare time, there are plenty of ways I like to recharge my creative batteries so I can do my best translation and eagle-eyed proofreading work.
You might find me walking my two German shepherds, cooking, reading or doing a spot of creative writing (I even have a novel on the backburner, so watch this space).

Education translations

Educational documents translated from Spanish to English. My main specialisation is supporting clients with the translation of academic articles for journals on research topics in the field of education. Recent articles I have translated explored the topics of the use of AI in education, the effect of increased screen time on young people, character education and critical thinking.

Having worked so hard on your article, work with a translator who will do it justice, adhering to the specific guidelines of the target publication and maintaining a formal, academic style.

I’m also experienced with:

  • academic transcripts
  • CVs
  • diplomas and certificates
  • official forms relating to education such as payment of school or university fees, application for duplicate certificates, and validation of foreign degrees or courses

Do you have a scanned document that includes handwritten signatures, stamps and other non-textual material? No problem! I can provide you with a professional translation in Word that respects the original format.

Travel and tourism translations

Sadly, in the tourism industry, low-standard literal translations are often the norm. The good news is, that means it’s easy for companies who understand the importance of high-quality English materials to stand out from the crowd and inspire confidence in potential customers and clients.

Let’s make sure your translations are culturally appropriate for an English-speaking audience and reflect the experience you offer accurately, so no one misses out on discovering your services or attraction.

  • Articles for travel magazines
  • Tourist brochures
  • Audiovisual materials
  • Photo captions
  • Conference presentations
  • Menus

FAQs

Why should I work with a human translator rather than using AI?

AI is a fantastic tool for a lot of things in this day and age, but when it comes to your translations, you should never blindly rely on a machine. Because the words you use to communicate, whether within your company or with your customers, can make or break your reputation. And without an understanding of the context, machine translation can get it very wrong. It may use terminology inconsistently or translate things word for word producing results that at the very least will make your potential clients laugh and at worst could end up damaging your company image and reputation.

Although translating your texts with AI might seem like a cheap alternative, when mistakes are made it will end up costing you far more money and time. That’s why I always recommend opting for a professional human translator from the word go, rather than finding out that machine translation is very fallible the hard way.

That being said, I am happy to post-edit texts translated with AI to catch any errors, improve the style and more.

How long will my translation take?

Translation is not just a case of swapping out one word in Spanish for another in English. Crafting the best possible English translation for you involves careful research and thought.

However, I’m very efficient, flexible, and never miss a deadline. In fact, I often deliver ahead of schedule! I’ll be able to provide you with a timeframe for your translation once I’ve seen the text in question.

What are your rates for English translation and proofreading services?

Your project and needs are unique, so your quote will be unique to you too.

Translation is usually charged by the word in the original text, and proofreading can be charged per word or hour, depending on the text.

To get a quote for your text, contact me with as much detail as you can about the project and I’ll get back to you before you know it.
